Steamed Brussels Sprouts with Lemon Butter Sauce

Serves 4 | Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total time: 25 minutes

Note: Brussels sprouts’ cook time will vary according to their size and age. Check small brussels sprouts at 4 minutes; medium brussels sprouts at 5 minutes; and large brussels sprouts at 6 minutes.


Ingredients

3/4 pound brussels sprouts

4 TB butter

2 TB lemon juice

1/2 tsp grated lemon zest


Method

  1. Wash brussels sprouts and cut off the ends.

  2. Melt butter in a skillet. Whisk in lemon juice until it makes an emulsion. stir in the lemon zest and set aside.

  3. In a large pot bring 1 inch of water to boil.

  4. Place brussels sprouts in a steamer basket and place over the boiling water. Cover and steam. Check by poking with a fork after 3 minutes, and then every minute thereafter until they are just tender through.

  5. Transfer the brussels to a serving bowl, and toss with the lemon butter sauce. Serve hot.
