Garlic Bread

Serves 4+ | Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total time: 20 minutes

Be sure to buy Italian bread that has a soft crust, not the authentic kind.

Ingredients

1 loaf supermarket-style Italian bread

1/2 stick of butter, softened

2 cloves of garlic

3 sprigs fresh parsley

1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.

  2. Mince or chop the garlic. Mince the parsley. Place in a medium bowl.

  3. Soften the butter in the microwave if necessary. Add to the bowl and mix to distribute the ingredients.

  4. Cut the loaf in half along the middle, as if you were making a sandwich. Spread the butter across both halves evenly.

  5. Place in the oven for 10 minutes.

  6. Remove and sprinkle parmesan cheese evenly, if using.

  7. Turn on the broiler and place the pan on the highest rack until the edges of the bread are toasted. Check after 1 minute, and then every 30 seconds until it is to your liking.

  8. Remove from oven. When cool enough to handle, cut into 3-inch pieces and serve.

Variation:

  • Sprinkle dried oregano or crushed red pepper over the slices before serving.

  • Use mozzarella instead of parmesan cheese.

  • More garlic!
